Welcome to Amy's Violin School!

Updated: Aug 29, 2021

Amy's Violin School turned 10 years old recently and I decided it was time for an update and a new look. Take a look around and check back regularly for calendar and blog updates!

Why do I teach violin through the Suzuki method?

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline, and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” - Shinichi Suzuki.

Learning to play an instrument is just a stepping stone to all that is being developed. I have spent the past 10+ years discovering how the Suzuki Method concepts apply to all areas of life.

Live. Music. Learn. Teach. Create.

Most of these concepts stem from the Suzuki Early Childhood Education program: EVERYONE CAN LEARN, ENVIRONMENT NURTURES GROWTH, ABILITY DEVELOPS EARLY, SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS, CHILDREN LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER & THE POWER OF MODELLING, PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS CRITICAL, & ENCOURAGEMENT IS ESSENTIAL. Listening, observation, review & community are also contributing factors. Learning music teaches us how we learn. Suzuki Group Classes provide students with opportunities to teach as a way of learning and learning to play by ear develops an even greater ability to create. Through establishing a lifestyle, the ability to learn proficiently, the opportunity to teach and learn in a safe environment and create freely, amazing things can happen and incredible joy can be found.

There is so much more

I created this blog years ago to continue my love of writing and creating and to share what I've learned and experienced on my journey as a Suzuki student, educator and parent. I can't wait to see what the next 10 years will bring and what other amazing families I'll meet on this journey!
